Can You Know God?

Here are four Bible-based truths that can help you to know God and have a personal relationship with Him:

1. God loves you and wants you to have fellowship with Him.

We are important to God. Originally God created us in His own image to honor Him and have fellowship with Him.

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.” – John 3:16, NCV (also see John 10:10)

2. Sin separates you from the fellowship of God.

In the beginning the first man named Adam chose to disobey God and this created a separation between God and man. This is called sin in the Bible. Today, all mankind has inherited that same condition, and are separated from God through sin.

"Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard . . . the payment for sin is death. (spiritual separation from God).” -Romans 3:23, 6:23, NCV (also see Isaiah 59:2)

Mankind has tried many ways to solve this problem of separation from God, including trusting in religion, rituals, good works, and morality. But our efforts to find God and bridge this separation are without success.

3. Jesus Christ is the only answer to the problem of separation.

Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. He bridges the gap between God and mankind. He is the way for you to fellowship with God.

"There is one God and one mediator so that human beings can reach God. That way is through Christ Jesus, who is himself human. He gave himself as a payment to free all people. He is proof that came at the right time.” -1 Timothy 2:5-6, NCV (also see JOhn 14:6, 1 Peter 3:18)

4. We must individually trust Jesus Christ and receive Him as Savior and Lord.

If we continue to trust in our own efforts to find acceptance from God, we will remain separated from Him forever. However, by trusting Christ we receive forgiveness of our sin, and have fellowship with God as His child. Then we are related to God forever.

“If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we declare with our mouths that we believe, and so we are saved.” Romans 10:9-10, NCV (also see John 1:12, Titus 3:4-7)

How you can receive Christ as your Savior through prayer:

Prayer is simply talking to God. The following is a suggested prayer that you can personalize in your own words to talk to God to receive Christ into your life:

“Heavenly Father, I ask Jesus to come into my heart and life as my Lord and Savior. Forgive me of all my sins. Cleanse me, make me new on the inside, and give me eternal life. Thank you for being my heavenly Father, and making me your child. Thank you for receiving me into the family of God.”
